Top 5 websites for free stock images
When designing and creating a website, it’s usually a very bad idea to use someone else’s images – not only because you can get into legal difficulty, but also because it calls into question your integrity for others using your services. Fortunately, this doesn’t mean your website or blog will be left with gaping holes and white backgrounds. Most images are free from copyright restrictions or licensed under CC0. However, some may require attribution so it’s best to do your own research to determine how the images can be used. There is a wealth of good quality free images available online and these are my top 5 favourite places to find them.
1. Unsplash
Releases 10 new photos every 10 days and they’re released under the creative commons public domain license.
2. Death To The Stock Photo
Every month a photo pack of 10 photos within a certain category will be delivered to your inbox. They have a premium service that provides more photography and helps fund photographers’ work.
3. New Old Stock
Vintage photos from the public archives free of known copyright restrictions. Many are taken by government agencies or discovered in estate sales.
4. Gratisography
Offers high-resolution pictures you can use on your personal and commercial projects. New pictures are added weekly and are free of copyright restrictions. All photos are taken by Ryan Mcguire – web designer and artist.
5. Jay Mantri
This designer shares seven new photos every Thursday under the CC0 license.
